Here’s a little more about the documentary:
“There needs to be a penalty when people die under your watch”.
The title of our new documentary came from this statement. The statement was made by Redempter Mwikali, a writer and humanitarian, who we interviewed for this story. “Under your watch” is a story about memory, justice and duty. It challenges us all, but especially those in political class to, before anything else, remember. To remember that their words and actions have put Kenya in a very precarious place before, to uphold justice before self-interest, and to recall their duty to the public.
Senior reporter at Africa Uncensored and 2021 AJEA Journalist of the Year finalist Joy Kirigia goes back down the road of elections past, speaking to people who were left devastated in the wake of these often violent contests. Some of these stories are from more recent memory, while others go back further into Kenya’s past.
This documentary was filmed by Africa Uncensored’s award-winning videographer, Elijah Kanyi.
