I always knew there was something wrong with this man during my time in Bush (05-08). I just was too young to put a finger on it. A man in his late twenties, thirties, forties has no business befriending teenage girls, whether he's the CU chairman or not! I am appalled that so many girls have suffered under his reign of terror. Shame on you Peter Ayiro. I hope you pay for your actions in this lifetime! To his enablers including the principals that sanctioned this abuse, your karma is coming.
Christine Mungai- thanks for this thorough journalistic piece. There is no doubt that this man right here is a predator and a monster.
He is 50 and has about 15 years before he leaves active teaching service. I hope justice is served before then. What can we old girls/general public do to amplify besides sharing this post far and wide?
What happened to innocent till proven otherwise in a court of law. I am not saying he should not be held into account of the alleged misdeeds, but let the law follow it's cause
We have accounts of more than a dozen alumni of the school, with even more coming out on various social media platforms, about the physical/emotional abuse they endured from someone who was supposed to be their guiding light and dad while in the school and your first impulse is that the benefit of the doubt should be given to the accused here? Really?
We understand how power dynamics work even in the real world let alone in school systems where kids are super impressionable. It is why P Diddy has been found not guilty from virtually every major crime he perpetrated upon hapless victims. It's why it took decades for even R. Kelly’s case to come to light.
We can't keep giving the benefit of doubt to the perpetrators rather than the victims.
He took advantage of unsuspecting young teenage girls. Used his access and privilege to literally prey on the girls ...I guess for me I just never gave a damp about who or what he was but for the girls who were dying to be accepted by Ayiro even validated then we'll he used that vulnerability space to take advantage of them. I hope people can look at this and call it exactly what it is no mother out there would have tolerated such behaviour and some who choose silence on the matter I am not sure it's out of shame that they didn't do right by reigning him in and protecting the young teenage girls or they were simply blind to what was before them. This is a man who was very quick to make unsavoury and misogynistic comments when Ivy was recklessly murdered. God he even married an old gal from the school 🏫 like...naaah!! He should never be allowed anywhere near young teenage girls. If in his defense he says they had a crush on him...as a teacher he should have put clear boundaries between that student-teacher line. My bold and very honest thoughts on all the stories I have heard. Speaking from the outside looking in and as a student who came to bush with larger than life self esteem; he groomed and took advantage of unsuspecting female gals; and dude wasn't even handsome but guys would slaughter me for this lol!!
I remember the words he uttered when Ivy died, that her eulogy was too short, and we should aim not to live a purposeless life like Ivy's. And coming from the so-called 'Man of God', it spoke volumes about his character.
LEGAL INCONSISTENCIES INDICATING THE GIRLS MAY HAVE WANTED TO BE INVOLVED WITH AYIRO
🔹1. Voluntary Visits to His House After School
Christine (2006): Age 19, visits Ayiro’s house alone, willingly, for what she calls a mentorship event the next day. She admits no force, no resistance, no objection in the moment.
“There was no penetration... I didn’t say no... But I didn’t fully understand what I was saying yes to.”
Evelyne (2007): Visits his house multiple times after finishing KCSE. Says she saw him as a “boyfriend.” Kiss felt normal. She prepared for the meetings like going on a date.
“I’d shower, dress up, blush. It felt like I was going to meet someone I liked romantically.”
🟥 Legal issue: These are adult women (18+) choosing to meet a man privately in his house, multiple times, without coercion. This can legally be interpreted as consent, especially if there was no official complaint made.
🔹2. Ongoing Friendships and Communication
Christine: Maintained weekly church interaction with Ayiro for over a year after the encounter. She even calls him “still on a pedestal” and says they were “friends.”
Ruth (2020): After one sexual encounter, she deletes messages but agrees to meet again — and continues seeing him despite internal conflict.
Mercy (2015): Returns to the school to pick her certificate, is kissed by him, and does not report it.
🟥 Legal inconsistency: If a victim maintains friendly or romantic contact long after an alleged abusive event, especially as an adult, it undermines the claim of non-consensual involvement or grooming. Courts often consider this as evidence of no distress or ongoing consent.
🔹3. Gifting and Romantic Language Accepted Without Objection
Ruth recalls Ayiro calling her “hot,” sharing sexual stories, then saying “I miss you.” Instead of cutting contact, she texts back and agrees to meet.
Mercy says Ayiro called her “wife” and she enjoyed the privileges associated with that. She admits using her influence to get other students out of punishment.
“I separated it in my mind. Yeah, I’m ‘wifey’ so I guess I get to go for drama trips.”
🟥 Legal problem: Accepting gifts, privileges, romantic pet names, and maintaining personal texting without objecting is often used to argue mutual interest — not coercion.
🔹4. Failure to Report or Object in Real Time
Cecilia (2014): Says he touched her breasts under her bra. She continues friendly contact, gives him her phone number at the end of school, and never reports him.
Ivy (2013): Says he kissed her on the lips unexpectedly, but then goes on to consider it as a potential “relationship” and fantasizes about dating him after KCSE.
“Maybe then we could see. I thought maybe there’s something here.”
🟥 Legal implication: If a person does not immediately express distress or opposition, and instead fantasizes about a relationship or maintains connection, it can be interpreted as lack of coercion or emotional manipulation — which is key in grooming charges.
🔹5. Delayed Disclosure Without External Prompt
Most girls only came forward years after the fact — often over a decade later — and only after hearing someone else’s story. None filed official complaints, police reports, or even internal school reports.
🟥 Legal inconsistency: This delay damages prosecutorial strength, especially if there is no contemporaneous complaint, physical evidence, or documentation. It becomes “he said, she said” — and the fact they never tried to alert authorities while they had access to them works in favor of the defense.
🔹6. Jealousy Over Other Girls
Evelyne and Mercy both expressed emotional pain and confusion when Ayiro withdrew from them — behaving like jilted romantic partners.
“My grades dropped… I felt I’d been discarded.”
“I started resenting the people he was talking to.”
🟥 Implication: These reactions resemble romantic heartbreak, not trauma from predation. Defense can argue this was emotional entanglement initiated and reinforced by mutual affection or expectation, not grooming.
🔹7. No Objection to Flirtation, Pet Names, or Physical Contact at the Time
Hugs with fingers “on the bum,” handshakes with “scratching the palm,” waist-holding hugs: all noted without confrontation or complaint at the time they occurred.
Several said they “just looked away,” rationalized it, or even felt special.
🟥 Implication: If suggestive behavior was perceived as boundary-crossing but never challenged, and even welcomed, then a jury could interpret that as normalizing and mutual — not abusive, especially when adults reflect back on teenage interactions.
🧨 COMPOUND LEGAL DEFENSE STRATEGY
If defending Ayiro, a lawyer would emphasize:
No physical force, threats, or coercion ever alleged.
No underage sex or penetration explicitly claimed.
Every woman involved was above 18 at the time of any physical act.
Consensual post-school interactions occurred, including dating-like behavior.
No complaints, police reports, or formal TSC accusations filed at any time — only emotional recounts years later.
All interactions were in public spaces or well-known areas — reducing the claim of secrecy or grooming.
You have prepared very good defense for him; the busherian lawyers will address you accordingly-this is not my cuo of tea. Personally, i am no lawyer but i can assure you that man is about to face the full extent of justice and repercussions for the abuse he metted on teenage girls unchecked. We know the law does not seek to prove innocence. Its guilty or not guilty. He harmed the girls that goes without question, he is a pedophile and a predator who operated with malice ...he himself termed a coercion rape in one of the accounts provided. He will not get away with anything because every single incident shows this were unwelcome attention and he manipulated the victims ...so you cannot dispute that this is sexual exploitation and abuse
He had an exaggerated sense of self importance and I will say low key he hated Busherians envied them eve and tried to knock off any shred of self esteem and big dreams they had - when he wrote such negative remarks following Ivys death; i think the mask fell off because he did envy, hated and was jealous of all the girls who made it to bush. That's why he would open his mouth to say you won't make an ivy league without him...as who?? We went on to make very huge strides in life without him and achieve things he would only dream about and all that without him. That dude was something and deeply sorry for all the young teenage gals now amazing 👏 ladies that he negatively impacted. And they should boldly call him out for what he did, no one should stay silent even if some would rather pretend he did not misuse his position of power to take advantage of young teenage girls
We need to have the July/August talk thing (do they still do it?) be all about sex, grooming, how to recognize when a man is seducing you, we need to set up avenues for girls to report cases etc.
Yo! Huyu ni nani? Nime-google sura yake and what the hell?? This man deserves to be locked up and kept far away from children. You can’t even deny the weight of these stories, heartbreaking, consistent, and horrifying. I’m disgusted.
Christine, the 4 years it took you to dig this up and put it together with such depth… I’m so proud of you. And to the brave girls who spoke out, your courage is beyond words. I can’t imagine what it took to relive and expose all this.
Peter Ayiro, you are a diabolical man. Hiding behind Christianity to prey on young girls? There’s a special place in hell for that kind of hypocrisy.
Honestly, how do we even convince anyone that humanity has hope when people like this exist? Yuck. Shame on you, kabisa.

Those girls needed the help of us with stronger personalities or to say the least those who did not care his attention. I did not interact with him because he was weird and my circle of friends had a groove so we were to cool for him. We even used to comment how those girls think they are so special but now in hindsight we should have asked those girls if they needed help and steered them away from him.
Unfortunately, they would not have listened. They truly believed they were special for having his attention. It was so weird and I can't fathom what stories teenage girls can share with grown men for hours but his grooming skills were excellent. Poleni to the affected girls.

I am so sorry that you ladies were preyed on in this way by this fisi (no other description seems fitting). From my reading, Ayiro's chosen profession and his work environment was for the sole purpose of preying on children. What is more disappointing is this was an open secret in a NATIONAL school (which teacher, on a teacher's salary, takes kids, who are not his own, to Java!). The other context here is clear, boarding schools are not SAFE or normal environments.
Everyone who has shared their story should be offered an opportunity- if they haven’t already—to confront this pain. They should know that the burden does not belong to them, but to the predator, Peter Airo.
As a survivor of sexual harassment and misconduct, I now realise how deeply I was damaged by these heinous acts. They penetrate one’s psyche and never truly leave. You become trapped in a cycle, repeatedly reminding yourself how easily these men felt entitled to your body—how they saw nothing wrong with breaching your privacy and autonomy. I struggled for a long time with feelings of shame, self-blame, and diminished self-worth, which affected my ability to trust others, including intimate partners.
This is an everlasting scar that Mr.Peter Ayiro has left on these girls(now women)😔😔
May this perpetrator have his day in court, and may justice prevail—not only to hold him accountable for his actions but also to send a clear message that sexual violence will not escape light because of the culture of shame.
Teenage girls need someone to help them navigate life with more of talks on sex , grooming. This will really help even after high school, the situation is way worst out here
This article loses the plot when it comes to accountability. While we can expect his father and his father’s bosses in church to do something about it, the real scene of crime is alliance girls, the teachers , the principal, the PTA and BOG … why have they not done anything about their teacher? Primary accountability here is the school, the denomination Peter belongs to is secondary as they don’t have the power to make alliance create better conditions for their students. We need to address the issue of teachers who are predators in schools, people like who for whatever reasons cannot be fired, and why are they not fired. Otherwise this will become a salacious expose that focuses the spotlight on the wrong thing and trivializes the pain the girls have gone through.
I remember the orientation at the homescience block. It was usually held over night prep. We all stood to introduce ourselves and the primary schools we came from. In retrospect I see that it was his way of marking his prey. He made sure he knew every single girl that was admitted into the school.
I was fumiiiiinnnng reading this!! What a disgusting piece of shit loser that man is!! but even worse, are the adults and authorities who failed to act and protect the girls!!! I hope he gets punished in this lifetime!! I cannot imagine the trauma these girls have had to live with and I hope putting this out there adds to their healing.
We must end this terrible culture of silence around sexual abuse, and while I was not in Alliance, I was also in a Nairobi high school that had an extreme religious culture and an at-all-costs academic competitiveness. These social structures only produce two dimensional human beings and I am not surprised that the school particularly did not see these girls as anything more than their grades and as flock! Boarding schools are a failed project and I don't know why we still have them!!
Christine, thank you for bringing this to the attention of all. I was in your year (00-03). I always thought he was creepy but didn't know what was happening behind the scenes. He never taught me.
He would occasionally step in when our History teacher was away, we never liked his teaching approach..he would just talk, talk during the double lesson and not teach.
He clearly had a type while using religion to prey. This one should not be allowed near a girl's school.
By the way he had a brother who was around school...look into that one too. Something was off about that dude too.
An English teacher from our year was exposed a few years ago, he was accused of doing the same to his students.
With a strong voiced alumni, why cant we force this guy to resign? I want to believe all schools have a code of conduct. I also want to believe that one student raising a concern is enough to warrant internal investigations. This is more than one. This teacher should not only be suspended but forced to resign from teaching. It should be made so difficult that he cant find. a job in another school. Teenage girls look mature for their age but they are still below the age of accountability and should be protected. From a spiritual perspective, there could be usurping of destinies happening in a lot of these scenarios.
I always knew there was something wrong with this man during my time in Bush (05-08). I just was too young to put a finger on it. I don't think so

I hope this helps

As an alumna, I always felt something was wrong with his interactions with some of the girls. So sad to have my suspicions confirmed 😕
My jaw is literally on the floor. Like WHAT?
Former alumnus here 2010-2013. I always felt that there was something strange with Mr.Ayiro but never thought it was this deep.
I am gutted by this.
That man was sus from day 1
Will never forget the orientation he gave us in that home science block
It was the first time we were meeting him and by the time we were done learning about the history of the school his eyes had scanned the entire group
I remember meeting his eyes and it was just such a weird feeling
I avoided that man like a plague just weird vibes all through
I remember the orientation at the homescience block. It was usually held over night prep. We all stood to introduce ourselves and the primary schools we came from. In retrospect I see that it was his way of marking his prey. He made sure he knew every single girl that was admitted into the school.
Pauline, as fully grown adults looking back, Jesus Christ!!
Someone must pay attention.
